Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery (LACS)

Bladeless Cataract Surgery VS Standard Cataract Surgery

Laser assisted cataract surgery (LACS) utilizes a femtosecond laser during cataract surgery by our doctors to achieve even higher levels of safety, accuracy and predictability. In 2012 the FDA approved the first laser for use during cataract surgery and Ophthalmology West Eye Care was amongst the first to offer the technology in the St. Louis area.

During traditional cataract surgery, doctors make an incision, break up, and remove the natural lens with manual techniques. LACS, also known as bladeless cataract surgery is approved to perform the most vital steps of surgery, including breaking up the cataract, using real-time imaging technology with a laser. This allows our doctors to view the anterior chamber and the cornea for image-guided precision during the surgery. With this advancement in technology we can further improve our already exceptional results by increasing the accuracy of several of the manual steps in traditional cataract surgery.
